Coiling

  1. Practice making consistent round coils, using the palm of your hands. The key word is practice.

  2. Round coils are the coils most used, but depending on what you are making, you can flatten your coils and make tri- angular coils, usefull when constructing ceramic sculpture.

  3. Making a traditional symmetrical coil pot, you could start by placing your coils in a dish shaped mould to give a good even foundation for your coil pot.

  4. Coils can be changed into many shapes such as spirals, pleated, triple twisted.

  5. Cross hatch and use joining slip on your coils as you work them.

  6. Try using joining slip with a small amount of vinegar added, to make the slip stick even more.
